And by the way. I've found that that 500 S&W shoots smoother then any 44 mag I've shot. I have a friend that had brakes put on his 44. That 500 is still easier to handle.

I picked up a Glock M27 .40 cal for CCW. It is a great gun - ugly as sin, but it kind of grows on you. Glock reliability is second to none - that's why so many Law Enforcement guys carry them.

I got the 45mm and yup, theres no gun like it. I still somehow prefer the feel of the 1911's though

45mm? In a handgun? Wow, and I thought my .45 ACP was big!

Now I know you didn't really mean 45mm, but it caught my attention none the less.

Okay, I have a quick question for you gun-savvy types.

I need a handgun. I want something that doesn't cost more than about $500 but isn't a piece of crap (is that possible in that price range?). Also, I don't want a sissy girl-gun -- if I ever need to use it, I want it to have stopping power.

Recommendations so that I know what to ask to see when I go shopping? Thanks in advance!

It is possible, although I'd go for the brand new stuff if I were you. I'd recommend any kind of revolver that takes .357 Magnum cartridges. If not that, I'd still look at revolvers first. The strongest handgun ammo is nearly always made for revolvers. If I was to pick a handgun for you, I'd pick the S&W model 19 revolver. It's strong and it's concealable. It can fit in some purses(if you carry purses, lol), depending on the size of the purse. It's used by the Rhode Island State Police. The price depends on where you buy them. I've seen them for as low as $420.

It looks like this..

You've got it easier than me. You can just walk into a store and buy a gun.

I live in Kansas. I can walk into a gun show and walk out with one in five minutes.
