I needed a haircut in September (life got in the way), and the last cut was in February 2019 (I think.) We're talkin' pretty shaggy here, and the hats are giving me headaches.

I have NEVER cut my own hair. Ever. But I'm a desperate woman.

A wahl clipper is on the way (took forever to find one, period, and another forever to find one that wasn't 2x the regular price), I've got shears and a proper comb, and a 2 mirror setup. I even found a 2" clipper guide (that reviewers say has some issues...but what the heck...we'll see), and if it flakes out on me, I don't mind 1" sides (won't be a first) with the OEM guide.

Besides online videos (which I'm looking at), any suggestions? Tips? Of course, if you know of a good diy tutorial vids, I sure would welcome that.

(NO screaming "DON'T DO IT".... After all, it grows out.)

NOTE: No, I'm not posting before and after pics.... ... But I will come back to say the cut passes or if it's an epic fail. (It will be weeks before the clipper comes, so it will be a while.)

I still have the hats.

Well, you all didn't have tips (though 100 people read the OP ), but I did it.

Not too bad...I've paid for worse.

Just fyi: if you need eye glasses, it's a tricky thing to see what you're doing, as you can't wear gasses when you cut your hair. I imagine I'll be cutting stray hairs for a while...

But I think I'm a convert to diy haircuts. I wonder what else we'll learn we don't need others for during this pandemic.

Good for you! You're braver than I am. I shiver and shake every time I have to trim my bangs. I haven't had a haircut since January but I'm growing out a mid-length bob so it isn't too bad, except that when it gets long it misbehaves in strange ways. Wish I could cut mine myself but I don't have a steady hand or the required patience. How in the world did you cut the back?

I used to work in a few salons (as a receptionist) and I watched enough stylists over those years where I was able to do a pretty good job on trimming my short hair when I lived in a place without any decent stylists. Good enough where I actually had compliments on it and people asking me who cut my hair. :-)

Watch some of the DIY pixie cuts on YouTube to see how easily it's done.

Well, you said you didn't want anyone telling you not to do it, so I didn't.

See the video. A mirror in front and behind.

I was pretty nervous during prep and as those clippers powered up, but I was surprised at how easy it was....lost about 6-7 inches. The only thing I'm not satisfied with is the top...should have left it longer (I used shears, not the clippers, on top).

I haven't been able to find a good stylists in over a decade. I think I'm done with them.
