Hello! I just graduated from college with my degree in Special Education (Exceptional Children). I am currently in Illinois and want to move to the South Atlantic, preferably the Carolina's.

What I want:
*Within 20 minute of a beach (one that is nice for walking, relaxing, playing in the water)
*Nice restaurants (not chains)
*Nice/accepting locals
*A decent dating scene
*More to do than going to the movies and drinking
*A good school district
*A medium-large town/city (I am not a small town girl, but I am also not a big city girl, somewhere in the middle is just right)
*Some place safe

About me:
*30
*Female
*No kids
*Dog lover
*Avid reader
*Teacher
*Sarcastic
*Loves to laugh

What would be the perfect coastal town for me to live in? I have been looking up places online, but I need advice from the locals. Thank you very much!

My suggestion is to look for a job in any of the areas that may interest you and let your job dictate where you live.

Even in education, isn't it still an employer's job market so to speak?

Unless one is self-employed with a portable business or independently wealthy, getting a decent job is often the no. 1 factor in deciding where to live.

Virginia Beach, VA
Wilmington, NC
Charleston, SC
Savannah, GA

Those are pretty much your choices going by your needs. Virginia Beach would be the most populous by far and would have the highest chance of obtaining employment. Salaries here aren't spectacular, but with your degree you will probably end up working for the goverment and that's about all there is here anyways, unfortunately. I've been to the other three. They are nice, but I'd pick Wilmington, NC over the other two. Nice area, young population, decent nightlife, warmer than VB, and a growing area.
