It's that time of the year. The FM99 Rock and Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive for the American Red Cross. This is one of the largest blood drives on the entire east coast. On Thursday from 7am-7pm, the setup will be at the Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News. On Friday, from 7am-7pm, the setup will be at the Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach. On Saturday, from 7am-7pm, the setup will be at the Chesapeake Square Mall in Chesapeake.

Starting this weekend, every Saturday until September will be a Luau! That's right, at the corner of King Street and Queensway in Hampton, the party will be happening at the Saturday Summer Street Fest: Beach Luau! Free and open to the public, 6pm-11pm.

Also on Saturday in Hampton, check out the Spirit of America Festival over on Mellen Street. From 10am-5pm, enjoy this free festival full of food, music, and fun for the whole family.

Don't forget, this Saturday is dated 7-11, so get your free slurpee at your nearest 7-11 store(s).

The Sandler Center in VB is starting their Summer Film Series this Monday. They're showing movies every Sunday and Monday throughout August. I believe admission is $3 but I'm not sure. I also know Dreamgirls is the film playing on Monday, but I'm not sure about the other dates.

I think I'll start also posting the band for the Busch Gardens Summer Nights Concert series... For those who don't know, during the summer, Busch Gardens contracts with a number of bands/artists to perform on the weekends. The concerts usually start around 8pm and are held over at the Festhaus Park. This weekend, be there for Foreigner. :

This weekend at Town Point Park down on Waterside in Norfolk... feel the spice of the Bayou Boogaloo & Cajun Food Festival. So if you enjoy cajun and creole style food, then you better be there! This event will be help Friday: 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday: Noon – 10 p.m. Sunday: Noon – 6 p.m.

For the Busch Gardens Summer Nights Concert Series, come see LOVERBOY. Concert starts at 8 - all you need is a Busch Gardens ticket or season pass.

Head to Waterside in Norfolk this Saturday from 6-10pm for the 2nd Annual Sharkfest! This event is being presented by LandShark Lager and will indeed have nice "frosty adult beverages" for consumption. Dynamohum will be putting on a performance, and even Chuck the Intern from FM99 will be joining them on drums for a short while. This event is free and open to the public.

For those interested, there seem to be a lot of free events going on at First Landing State Park. Everything from kayaking to 18th century gaming to "What's in your net?" and even a Pirate Treasure Hunt. This weekend seems to be a great weekend to take children there. Just a warning, the events are free, but there is an entrance fee into the park. Not sure how much though.

Now, this series of events is not exactly on the weekends, but there are free movies at Waterside every Wednesday between now and August 26. The movies start at 8:30pm, but there is a movie-themed dinner that starts at 7:30pm. Click here for more information. Next Wednesday (August 12) they will be showing Field of Dreams. "If you build it, they will come."

Friday August 21st, Gretchen Wilson will be performing at NAB little creek. The show is free, parking is free and there is plenty of food and drink as well as port-o-potties! Show starts at 7pm, so if you love country, come on out to hear some great music.
