Sorry to see this amount of bile of the Hawaii forum. I'm with Vaedrum. Hawaii has a long tradition of social justice , thanks to the Unions and the Democratic Party. That'/s one of the reasons it's a great state, not the money spent , but the caring attitude. Some of you would obviously not be comfortable living there.
And to those of you who seem new to the Forum, a posting is not an invitation to a debate. If you're looking for a fight, go elsewhere.

Every state is broke and it isn't the fault of the unions and dems, although they seem to be getting all the blame.

Here's a thought on that subject:

BTW, Do you know how to fish, hunt, or prepare your own meal? Just curious - Do you expect food to be handed out to you 3 times each day?
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted back in the 1940's--not really by the UN of today. I grow a lot of my own food right here on my homestead; I'm not in need of it, but there are good ways to support local farmers and feed the hungry simultaneously.

Anyway, Denmark still has high productivity; people didn't stop "working" because they had social supports.

We've just had 8 years of a republican, "pro-business" governor, and unions in Hawaii are heavily battered, so I really don't think you can blame everything on those two groups. Eureka is right, there is no aloha in that tea party stance of "I've got mine, so the rest of you can rot!"

Right on - good for you. I was just curious how you interpret the UN writings. The reason I asked the somewhat rhetorical question was because I think there is a difference between a "right" and a "guarantee" - and it kind of sounded like you the implications were one and the same. What I mean is homeless people have not lost their "rights" to have a home simply because they are homeless.

Anyways, this isn't really the best place for politics and I don't think it was the purpose of the OP, so apologies if it came off as "bile" - that wasn't the intent. Peace.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here? But what I advocate is a system of absolute, guaranteed housing for everyone, not subject to their ability to pay, the prejudices of landlords, the mercy of their extended family or anything else--not an abstract right on paper that is violated without consequences every day. So we might disagree on that.

Sorry, but many of us are not in the mood for more socialistic government programs that cost money that we don't have to support while we are busy working hard to provide for ourselves, our extended ohana and hanai family members as we can possibly afford to help.

let us know how you like living in Denmark after a few years.

So you're saying that the only reason you're not a bum is to keep a roof over your head, and that if you had a free bunk in a homeless shelter, you wouldn't work?
