How can we have diversity or even harmony if you cant even respect others customs and cultures? Or even acknowledge there is other cultures or customs, if we only think ours is superior?
A few traditions do not make a culture. You want this romanticized version of Hawaii that no longer exists. Sorry. There are traditions in the South - Midwest - Northeast - Northwest, that doesn't mean they have a unique "culture". The old Hawaii "culture" ended 15 years or so ago - blame the internet if you prefer. Go look at your own youtube videos you posted like crazy of all the places that don't exist and reconcile that to modern times. They are gone. Poof. Gone. Not to be replaced. Nada. No more.
Sure, I'll agree with you - but there are many, including people on this thread - who butcher the English language and don't even know how many states exist. Is the Hawaii school system really that bad - or I hope it is improving.
Lol well I think people know DC is not a state. His statement was poorly worded.
I don't know about the school system.. So many middle class and above students go to private schools. There's a huge divide between the good private schools, where going to college somewhere like USC is normal and UH is the last resort, and many public schools, where UH is considered good. Many public school students don't seem very motivated in school. Some describe themselves as "lazy" like they're proud of it. I think one cause is the pervasiveness of "local" attitude in the public schools.

And then there is some on this thread, that think they are gods gift to humanity, that there right to live there own happiness supercedes other rights to just exist, there opinions are the only thing that matters. That the rules of decentcy only apply to others and not them. Yes some of us don't write well. But some of us are illiterate as humans.
I also think that people misunderstand what im saying, im not saying get rid of mainland culture or Haoles(im for culture diversity). Im not one of those guys that yells go home haole unless your a real . Im just opposed to what appears to be a superiority attitude. That even though all local families had to learn the culture and customs pidgin etc, including myself and my ohana. But Mainlanders are the exception of the rule? Im all for blending of the cultures, but what im also hearing isnt blending but domination of a minority on a majority. I think mainland usa has there place in Hawai'i, but when only oldtime locals know what im saying about culture and lifestyle is true. Or i get really bad responses from current newbys of Hawai'i, That tells me a balance has been lost. Thats all, no sinister plot to make Hawai'i non white etc.
To borrow a turn-of-words from Don Somebody-or-Other, you seem to be tilting at that biggest of all windmills - Progress. It can be your best friend, or it can grind you into goo. You seem to opting for the gooier side of things. It is okay, though, for the skids will always be in need of grease.

And you romanticise your self and western culture. Alot of local business didn't fail, or poof disappeared as you arrogantly argue. They were driven out of business by non local business interests with deeper pockets. The might is right mentality, To hell with what locals wantted. The almighty dollar is what is important, not the disturbing of ancestral graves or the almost elimination of others cultures, languages etc.

Well, another son of Hawaii asserted there were 57 states, so 52 certainly is a step in the right direction.

Thats the point im trying to make, why do you assume what has happened and is currently happening as progress? Thats weird? I lived in a time in Hawai'i where kids could play freely without being supervised, i lived in a time where you could still keep your door unlocked. I lived in Hawai'i at a time when business were still owned by locals who had to care about community, environment and its people. Etc etc.
To me what i see isn't progress but regression
