I have to say, I feel sorry for people who live in Hawaii and have to deal with these kind of folks all the time. Dreamers who think they can pack up and move to an island that's already overcrowded. I can tell it drives some of you crazy. I don't blame you.
I planned my move for 7 years and visited every year more than once per. These yahoo's want to pack up and head over after a 5 day visit or none at all.

Me, too. We also planned our move seven years in advance after doing LOTS of research. We decided to keep working our mainland jobs, which paid a whole lot more than anything we could find on the Big Island, and moved over with comfortable retirements from two jobs. Almost six years later we are still here

Well, we've lived in Florida our whole lives, and we've seen people move here with no money or plan.
If we had to put up with that, why shouldn't we be able to do the same thing in Hawaii? Don't we at least deserve that?

Well unfortunately, many people born in Hawaii end up having to relocate as they are unable to afford living in Hawaii. If anyone "deserves" to be able to live in Hawaii, it is them. Knowing that you care deeply for your GF, I would be very cautious of exposing her to the stress of a high potential for homelessness. That seems like the worst possible scenario for a person in recovery. Hawaii isn't like many places on the mainland where sheer desire and hard work generally results in favorable outcomes.

Well Hawaii was her idea. I don't really care where we move. I suggested Alabama but she thought it might be too cold up there for her.
At the end of the day, I do what my girlfriend tells me to.

Regardless...I don't think anyone would suggest that you move anywhere with only $3,500. You can't afford to move.
