I was commenting about this I am considering a pay cut to move to Hilo ..
Big decisions....I am glad that I can relax for a while now. But I tell you depending on how much of a reduction you might need to take...it still might be worth it!
Location: Was in Western New York but now in Hilo Hawaii

Ed...when did you move to CA and how does Cali compare to let's say Maui?
We moved to San Jose in 1976.
I'd like to make something clear. Maybe someone has made this point. Look, there is nothing like HI, nothing!
Hawaii has a natural beauty unsurpassed by any place on earth.
BUT! And a big but. To live in Hawaii is great, *IF* you are wealthy! Ok? Let me say it again, it's great if you have MONEY!!
Some say, "oh, but I can live on the beach and eat bananas and coconuts and grow this and catch fish and - - - What a crock of bull!
Look, money talks, ok? And if you got it, you can live in Hawaii and really be happy. For those that say, oh yeah, I can be satisfied and happy with flipping hamburgers at minimum wage, and live in a small apartment, and be frugal, and hug trees, and sing kumbaya with the natives, sheeeeyyat! Dream on, because that's all it is, and then someday you'll wake up and say, wow, why am I doing this?
So folks, come and visit, enjoy, take pictures, go to a luau and try the poi and if you don't like the poi, which I know you won't, leave it on the table and I'll take it home. Visit all our beaches and monuments and historical places and go home with good memories, and come again. But if you want to move to Hawaii to live and work, just be sure you come with a suitcase full of money and a job that pays very well.
