I am interested in knowing how many of us would give up living in Hawaii to have the chance to earn $30,000 more per year for the same type of job we are doing now to live...let's say in Boston?

Heck no! Boston has winter! It would take many more zeros to get me out of Hawaii.

Well, Boston is tricky. I lived there a long time. I like the city (though I hate winter). I have family there. I think I'd have to seriously consider it.

But if you change Boston to... I don't know... Detroit? Cleveland? If it's someplace I don't have any ties or any other reason to be there, I'm going to say a big no.

Of course, I'm lucky enough to make a solid living here. So $30K is nice and all, but it's not like I'm going to be homeless or hungry if I stay here with my current salary.

If one budgets correctly, that extra $30,000 per year is enough to afford a place in Hawai'i and another state.

I would add that $30,000 extra in Boston "ain't that much". The East coast has a surprisingly high cost of living.

What actually is "solid living" in Hawaii, any way?

I voted no. I could be paid 500K more a year and I wouldn't live in Boston.

Why would you want to live in Boston? Is your family there? For a lot of folks, they live in Hawaii because this is their home where all their family is. Doesn't matter how much they could make in some other place, the family is here.
