Kahala-Oahu coast here. Probably heading to DiamondHead here in a bit. Should also mention that land lines and cell calls are NOT going through.

My 20 year old daughter called me at 3:00 am this morning (1:00 am Hawaii time). She is a college student and lives just one block from Waikiki beach. She said they were being told to be prepared to evacuate and have at least 3 days worth of food and water per person. They said they would start sounding the first sirens at 6:00 am Hawaii time.

My first instinct was to tell her to get to higher ground and stay put. I also told her to go get water and non perishable food and to get out of Waikiki before the sirens started to in order to avoid any traffic gridlock and panic.

Of course, after she called I could not go back to sleep. She was able to get out of Waikiki and headed to the nearest military base (we are a military family) and is there now. We figure if they have to evacuate the base, they (Marines) will make sure she is in a safe location.

So now we sit and wait...

I am almost positive that the sirens didn't go off for that one. So to hear them this time around is kind of scary. There have been a few tsunami threats since I've been here(2003) but have never heard the sirens...

Just canceled my land line last week but cell calls are going through over here in the Honokaa area.

Just got word that all 3 Pahoa gasoline stations are completely JAMMED. If you don't already have gas - forget trying. Main road into Old pahoa is also completely jammed due to people trying to get gas - they are lined up in the road, blocking access.

Everyone has been calling me and waking me up!! I live about 5 miles inland, pretty high up so not too worried. But I do have to go to work later, which is RIGHT on the beach. That's not till 3 so hopefully the worst is over by then! In the meantime, my stupid boyfriend wants me to go fishing with him.

Are you really going to have work 3 hours after a tsunami?

I hope your boyfriend doesn't go fishing in a tsunami

Everyone who doesn't need to evacuate should just stay put. Leave the roads clear for those evacuating and emergency vehicles.
