I don't live in Hawaii myself (I'm in NY), but was just watching the Weather Channel and learned of the earthquake in Chile and the subsequent Tsunami warning for Hawaii. The Director of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, HI says that while he doesn't know exactly how big the waves will be, he expects them to be the largest to hit Hawaii since 1964. The first waves are expected to hit Hawaii around 11:19 am Saturday.

My prayers go out to all residents of coastal areas in the Hawaiian islands for your safety.

Default Prayers..

I hope the best for the people of Hawaii. I heard that the emergency horns/sirens have been going on... 'must be a weird/surreal thing. Anyone in Hawaii hearing those sirens?

First wave is estimated to come at about 11:00 EST. Also reported is another wave at 15:00. I'll be watching the news.

The tsunami alert siren went off about 45 minutes ago (0535). Considering it is about 100 yards from the house it was quite loud and got everyone up. I live at an elevation of about 400' here on Kauai and should be ok. We've been talking to friends on the phone that live near the water and have been offering them a place to stay until the all clear is sounded.

The siren woke me up out of a dead sleep at 6am. It is scary and surreal. I hope everyone in ALL coastal areas follows all of the evacuation steps and takes this seriously. Just another thing to consider if you really want to move here and live by the beach...
