This is sort of funny; where are we going to drive to? It's not like we have a 500 mile stretch of highway available!

Take care over there.

All beaches are closed on all islands. There is expected to be more than one wave/surge and it is expected to last at least several hours. Going fishing could be the last thing he would ever do.

Been awake here on Maui since before 6 -- sirens have gone off three times so far. We're well out of the tsunami zone, so no worries there. Surreal to know exactly (to the minute) when a natural event will occur. So far the biggest effect is explaining to the excited kids that (1) nothing is happening now or will happen for awhile, (2) where Chile is and why an earthquake there will cause a wave here, and (3) why all events are canceled when it's such a beautiful day. We've contacted our friends along the shore, and everyone's aware and is taking precautions.

Hopefully no one is dumb enough to go fishing...

From all the way in MN, stay safe everyone. The band from our high school is supposed to be going to Hawaii in a couple weeks, hopefully there won't be any damage, everyone in HI is safe and they can make their trip.

Forecast is now downgraded to a 6 to 7 foot surge height. Still, can cause massive damage in the lower lying areas.

Well I talked to my coworkers (I work at a hotel...so it is a 24 hr operation!) and we are evacuating all of our guests. A lot of people had to go in to help evacuate, but because I am scheduled for later in the day, I didn't have to go in (someone needs to be there afterwards..). If the roads are open, I have to go in- no choice! We'll see what happens...

I am writing in from tornado country. I think after following all the tsunami news I would rather face a tornado than a tsunami. To everyone in Hawaii please stay safe. I send my prayers out to you all
