Why does it take me going to the 4 differnet Dr's before one is competent enought to diagnose that both my kids have ear and throat infections???? I am so pi$$ed off.
Also, I brought my daughter. to the Dr for a follow up visit for bowel issues. I decided to bring my 8 month old along as she was coughing and had a fever. My regular pediatrician was away but they work in the same office. So after checking my daughter I politley ask if he can have a quick look at my 8 month old. She didn't have an appointment. Well he says : "No, I'm all alone today and I have a medical student here. Bring her to a clinic tonight! "He then leaves and doesn't even tell me when to bring my daughter back in for the bowel issues. Could he not have been a little less rude? My mom came with me and both of us were like.
So then I had to drag my poor 8 month old and 2 1/2 year old to another Dr. They both have ear and throat infections and need antibiotics. The first Dr. checked my 2 1/2 year old and said she was FINE.

Thanks for letting me vent. I feel like its all about money these days. Why be a pediatrician if you can't stand kids????

Sorry you are having negative feelings and thoughts about your current physician, it may be time to switch. Especially when it comes to concerns with your kids. Everyone deserves good attention so if you aren't getting it there, move on to someone else. There are some really great kind caring and compassionate doctors out there who are pretty exceptional.

The biggest bunch of BS is when you have to pay for multiple useless visits that put our kids health in danger.

My oldest son was very sick and losing weight fast. I took him to the clinic three times in a week and on Friday I took him to ER because he looked absolutely horrible. He was transferred to another hospital because he was in really bad shape. He spent a few days in ICU, we were in fear of kidney damage among other things. I tried and tried to get him care all week long.

Another time in another clinic I had taken my younger son to the DR. for a check up on his ear. He had some problems in the past. So the Dr. who had a student also and BOTH checked his ears said they looked fine. Well I knew something seemed wrong so I took him to a different clinic who found a hole in his eardrum. He had to see a specialist and needed surgery.

I get so freaking tired of this kind of thing.

You mention "Clinic". Do you have health benefits, or help ?

If you think it's bad now, wait till 2014. Healthcare Reform.

It is a sad day when one realizes back in the day doctors used to choose their job bc they truly had a vocation for it... today, not anymore...

I am not saying all doctors are the same of course, but I have been unfortunate enough to say at least the majority of the ones I have met look at my checkbook before looking at me.

Today, with most doctors, it is all about profit. Just pray that they will not charge fees and misdiagnose you. It is truly a sad thing.

I had gallstones and it took doctors 6 years to diagnose it! I don't trust doctors either.

I don't think a lot of them make the profit they used to. I know my doctor no longer takes new patients, it's too risky, and he doesn't want to take just anyone. I remember when I was laidoff 6 years ago, lost my insurance, and he said to me, "When you get new insurance, come back". He doesn't want to be bothered chasing people for unpaid bills I guess, and he has to pay his bills also. He's an excellent doctor and I trust him with my life. He did a surgery I needed 3 years ago, and I wouldn't have thought to go to anyone else. When you find a good one- still with him. On the flip side, it's a business.

I can't justify, but it's a business.

It is a business, but telling a patient "return when you get new insurance" is pretty heartless, imo.

Good doctors I know would accommodate a patient who had switched/was switching insurances. A happy customer is still an excellent, maybe the best, publicity. The patient you treated respectfully will literally go the distance to continue seeing you and bring many others.

And if doctors had a bit of kindness and compassion it wouldn't hurt either.

lisalan, in short words, what is healthcare like, in general, in Canada? I have heard terrific/terrible things about it... as a Canadian, how would you rate it on a simple evaluation?
