This thread contains a very friendly, very moving, very caring exchange of viewpoints and discussion. Expressing different viewpoints from different perspectives is one of the really wonderful things that this forum provides. We can all learn so much from each other. I for one, tremendously enjoy reading various points of view.
Dying does not bother me......I've ALWAYS known it was coming someday....how it happens tho....is totally differant.....my preference is to simply wake up dead one morning after a long trouble free life.....

Wake up dead? That would be interesting. I think the only thing that I worry about is leaving this earth while my kids are still young. Hopefully I'll be an old, old women who has completed her mission on Earth.....be a great Mom and leaving my adult children with their own families.
I'm not afraid of death at all ,and like Cil I am only afraid of pain and indignity. If I could just go to bed and die in my sleep, I really don't have a problem with it. As long as I have lived well, travelled and put my time on earth to good use, why should I be afraid of dying ? I cannot think of anything worse than being immortal actually. I would love a few more years to enable me to see more of our wonderful and beautiful world and experience more but after a while I think I would just feel it was time to go. Also I would hate to live longer if my loved ones were not around any more...
I want to age gracefully but naturally with my partner, but the idea of becoming housebound permanently or becoming senile is far more scary to me than death. Death is a natural part of the process .

We, as a society, have certainly increased the risk for painful death. As we continue to push age expectancy higher and higher, with new drugs and medical procedures, we have just stalled the inevitable ending. Many diseases today, exist because of this: cancer, alzheimer's, parkinson's, etc. Back in the 1800's, chances are that we would have died naturally at around age 50 (if lucky!), way before these diseases would have set in.
As a society, the trade off to living longer...is dying harder!
Has anyone heard of Randy Pausch or seen his "Last Lecture"? He is a 47-year-old professor is has been handed a death sentence --- his pancreatic cancer has spread to his liver and he only has a few more months to live. How he is handling it is amazing. I highly recommend watching his "Last Lecture" if you haven't already. It's not about dying, it's about how to live. You can find a link to it from his webpage: Randy Pausch's Home Page
my true preference would be to go dashing n crashing and squeeling up to the pearly gates nnnnscreech to a halt....and yell...I'm here to check in and BOY what a ride.
