An older model (atleast around 20 years old) BMW cut me off deliberately and then floored the pedal releasing a lot of blue exhaust smoke right in front of me, I could smell the car exhaust fumes inside my car even though I had windows closed and A/C on recirculating mode.
I am concerned that my lungs and other organs have been damaged from exposure to his exhaust fumes and his car was burning oil making the smoke blue and smelled more worse than Normal exhaust. Will this exposure cause harm to my health? I’m not sure if his car was a Diesel engine it was a 20 year old bmw car, I think M3 model, I think it was either a sedan or coupe I can’t even remember now because of this horrific event

I'm confused. Did you follow this car for a significant time, during which you were subjected to constant fumes? Or was it just the one time as he sped off after cutting you off in traffic?
It it was the latter, there is no way any long term damage could take place from you inhaling those fumes for the 5-10 seconds they were coming through your vent. You would have to be exposed for a VERY long time to sustain damage.
I remember when our city buses used to spew clouds of black every time they pulled away from the curb. My mom used to yell; 'Everybody! Roll up your windows!' LOL.
The only time it made me sick was once when I was pregnant, ew gross ... I was retching for about 10 minutes.

Love some of the responses in this thread. Thanks for the afternoon laughs guys. I'm not sure how any of us survived the 60s and 70s when many older car burned more oil than gas. I should at least have black lung by now!
OP, good luck with your lawsuit against BMW. If not them, I'm sure you'll find someone that will pay up for your poor health going forward.

No he was following behind me the whole time until he decided to change lanes and then cut me off and floored the pedal - when he did that I saw some blue smoke coming out of his pipes and the fumes smell entered inside my car. After speeding in front of me for a couple seconds he took the next exit and was gone.
A one time thing is not going to harm you. The stress of worrying about insignificant things will kill you off quicker than any infrequent exposures to exhaust. Relax.

Are most people exposed to vehicle exhaust when they are driving?
Some cities have specific laws that state that a vehicle shall not produce exhaust smoke exceeding a certain number of seconds (usually 10) upon taking off from a stop, and I imagine that also applies to revving it unnecessarily. Creates a visibility hazard.
Smoke at idle is never okay. Not sure what you can do about it from a ticketing perspective legally. But the civil side of things lets you sue for just about anything. Do you think you should see a doctor first?
