Mandates isn't science... it's authority. Using a mask for controlling viruses/infection/disease is science supported.
Once you blend the two you have allowed politics or governance to have the last word.

I wear a mask as required and where required, but I'm totally against mandates without legislative action.

Oh, I get it. It’s a joke .... As if we’re in the mood.
Jill that is exactly how I feel. I did vote; it should be a choice because it came the closest to how I feel. Common sense should tell us when one should be worn: obviously around sick people: when entering a place where food and alcohol is served; in a grocery store and of course if it is a mandate. I do not believe it should be a national law by any stretch of the imagination.

That is exactly why the moderator of one of our local face books has banned people from discussing masks anymore.

I wear one everywhere, which means all public places for me. I've been doing that since February. I used to wear one on my daily walks because of the joggers and people on bikes on side walks that are entitled rectums and don't respect social distancing. I did it not only to protect myself, but the health care workers I've had to interact with for my surgery. My last visit is Thursday.

I don't wear a mask on my late night walks or bike rides. It's very easy to social distance. I've stopped wearing them on my occasion day time walks at sunset. I don't see that many people out at that time these days. I never left the house without a mask before. Unfortunately, our Covid cases have nearly doubled here in our town. Our positivity rate is still below 5 for the state, but it is inching up slowly every day. I'm seeing more and more people sitting outside at the restaurants, and some inside. That is something I will not be doing.

Agree! But it can be a huge source of entertainment for medical professionals when they read them.

I wish C-D mods would start closing them down. They did make an attempt to limit "new" Covid-19 thread starts a while back, but the whole mask subtopic should follow that example. If anyone feels they cannot live without indulging the urge to talk ad nauseum about masks they can certainly take their pick from an existing thread. At this point all these threads really provide are personal diatribe soapboxes.

I assume if your wearing a mask while driving, it's a preventive measure to keep y'all from licking the windows.

Mercola goes through the various arguments in this ARTICLE

its rather verbose/long, but I found this part interesting

"Nationally recognized board-certified neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock also believes face masks are capable of causing serious harm:28

"Now that we have established that there is no scientific evidence necessitating the wearing of a face mask for prevention, are there dangers to wearing a face mask, especially for long periods? Several studies have indeed found significant problems with wearing such a mask.

This can vary from headaches, to increased airway resistance, carbon dioxide accumulation, to hypoxia, all the way to serious life-threatening complications ... By wearing a mask, the exhaled viruses will not be able to escape and will concentrate in the nasal passages, enter the olfactory nerves and travel into the brain."

Face masks can also pose a danger to health care workers, wrote Blaylock,29 by causing "a reduction in blood oxygenation (hypoxia) or an elevation in blood CO2 (hypercapnia)," as well as headaches. The elderly are at risk, too, he warns:

"Unfortunately, no one is telling the frail elderly and those with lung diseases, such as COPD, emphysema or pulmonary fibrosis, of these dangers when wearing a facial mask of any kind — which can cause a severe worsening of lung function.

This also includes lung cancer patients and people having had lung surgery, especially with partial resection or even the removal of a whole lung."

Face shields more effective?
"Face shields, when studied with influenza, protected people from inhaling 96% of flu-laden droplets produced by a cough even when the face shield wearers were only 18 inches of someone coughing, the Post said.31 Clearly, they provide some of the protections of social distancing which may explain why we are increasingly seeing them used by health care practitioners."
