I can really only whisper or barely wheeze out a word. I think I might have larangytis. I did some reading on what exactly it is and I have a lot of similarities. Anyways whatever it is I don't like not having a voice, especially with two kids. So what's the best thing besides lots of fluids. Honey's good isn't it? Thanks for any suggestions.

And fresh lemon!

Tip your head back and squeeze fresh lemon onto the back of your throat.

Don't know if this is true or not, but whispering is harder on your voicebox than regular speaking, so try not to whisper either. I know it's hard, especially with kids! Hope the voice comes back soon!

With your kids snap your fingers and have some signs made...maybe it will work. I agree you just have to rest your voice. Very hard to do!

laryngitis feels like youre sick. its not usually just inability to speak. its usually coupled with the fever, pain swallowing, burning eyes, etc. Dont try to speak with it, or you can risk developing vocal polyps and nodes. I was a speech pathology major for a while so i learned a lot about it. If you go the tea route, get caffeine free. Id simply suggest lots and lots of water, and steam inhalation as that will make the swelling of your chords go down and make speech easier. If it isnt better ina couple days, id check for nodules because you can get those from shouting at a sporting event etc. i dont know you story lol. but another thing to google. either boil water on the stove, put your head over the pan with a towel and inhale...or steam up your bathroom for 15 minutes every couple of hours or so.

I had a few bouts of laryngitis about 10 yrs ago... and yes, whispering is like yelling for your vocal chords.

drink warm fluids, and do not speak... days if possible.
gargle with warm salt water ... salt [sea salts] are very healing

I used a note pad [are your kids of reading age?] on a clip board... i also used a "Bell" like one of those glass dinner bells... got the kids attention ... they were actually very good about it -- really wanted to help, so they actually came when i rang the bell.

hope you feel better soon...
