Garlic tablets are good for blood thinning as well.
One needs to be cautious when taking these. The amounts are not regulated, and without periodic lab tests, you have no idea of the bloods characteristics.
Any herbal starting with a "G" will present potential clotting problems, should you require surgery, or develop, let's say. an ulcer. They should never be takne if you are on prescription thinners. Additionally, for people taking the herbals, they need to notify their physician if they are about to have elective surgery, as the anesthesiologist may demand that they stop taking the herbal in advance (sometimes up to two weeks or more) prior to the surgical, because of the potential of interaction with anesthetic drugs or excessive bleeding.
Dr. wanted me to take lo dose aspirin. I am healthy and see no reason for it. If I get in a serious accident or need surgery, I sure don't want to bleed to death. I believe in "don't fix whats not broke"!
I guess it depends on how old you are and your family history. FYI taking 1 baby asprin a day on the advice of your physician is probaby smart. I am sure he/she feels your benefits out weigh your risks. Asprin can be extremely helpful in lowering rates of heart attack, stroke and many more diseases.
NEVER stop taking a prescription medication like Coumadin without the permission of your doctor. It may be a decision you do not live to regret! There are also foods and medications that can cause reactions with Coumadin and Asprin. Please be informed before you make rash medical decisions involving your health. Medications are very complicated and doctors go to school for many years to learn their specific complexities. Please don't think 30 min of research on google qualifies you to make an informed decision regarding your health without a doctors knowledge.
My fiance takes coumadin. Not really a "blood thinner" as they are often called, but an anti-coagulant. She will probably have to take it forever too. I hope she can come off of it at some point, but after clots, consider yourself very lucky to be alive.
Another thing about Coumadin. Anyone on it should be having their blood tested (pt/inr)regularly! This test tells the doctor exactly how thin your blood is and if your dose should be adjusted. If you are not being tested, I would be concerned too.

Definitely. My fiance gets hers tested 1-2 times per month. She went this past Saturday and it was 1.7; should between 2.0 and 3.0. Though told her to take double her normal dose of 4mg on that day, take her normal dose for 2 weeks then come back.

Good for her!!! It only takes one clot to kill. I witnessed a patient throw a clot, it was awful, he suffocated. I will never forget it.
U don't hear people admit "I was supposed to get my blood checked". They just tell everyone that it almost killed them. All drugs can be dangerous if you are noncompliant.
Tylenol is also a very dangerous drug. Many people think nothing about taking 3 or 4 at a time (MY DAD). Anything over 1000mg per 6 hours can be toxic to the liver.
