I was born and raised in a very small town in a midwestern state, but the Wikipedia article about that town does not even mention me. Very few people have ever heard my name. Yet, I was present as a central and highly influential figure in one of the most well-known events in popular American history. I died very young--only 4 years older than Ritchie Valens.. I was held to be at fault for my own death.

A guess: Meredith Hunter, who was stabbed by Hell Angels at the Altamont Music Festival in 1969. His assailant was acquitted.

How did you come up with that? There was nothing to go on. No place to start.

BTW, did the Kingdom get lots of snow today?

Hint: There is a memorial monument, bearing my name and that of three other people, all more famous than I am.

Well, it was a guess. Died young. Questionable circumstances. Probably wasn't the right guy. I don't know about the central and highly influential figure part, but lots of rules concerning large concerts were changed afterward. Who knows?

Snow: Yes. Big time! Shoveled the driveway almost non-stop today until about a an hour ago. I dunno - maybe 18-20". Tomorrow I'll be clearing the roof off. Phew!

jtur - would giving the decade make the answer obvious?
