The 60's, dude. Man on the moon, civil rights, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, The Supremes, Abbie Hoffman, Women's rights, the environmental movement, Woodstock, gay rights...
At least it was an exciting decade.
YES ~~ I agree 100%. No one locked their doors, cars were CARS ~~ sock hops, street dances, hide-n-seek, kick the can. Peace, Love and rock-n-roll, a rubberband around your B/F's class ring. Dick Clark & American Bandstand. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendricks ~~ those were the days!
Ahhh, if I could only go back and know what I know now!!!
I am 63 now and the best half decade IMO was the first half of the 1060. After 65 thinksa pretty much started goign downhill.I alos think that the 90 were pretty good and lfe was easier but society was ging down hill as people civility.
I agree, the Norman Conquest in 1066 really got me down. Also, no television.
Without a doubt, the 50's. A very simple non-materialistic time. Unlocked homes & cars. Neighborhoods teeming with children playing safely outdoors from morning until after dark. No safety equipment to protect one from accidents. Broken arms and scraped knees were expected. Walking alone after dark and not feeling threatened.
Some of my favorite things from that era:
TV/Movies - I Love Lucy, Howdy Doody, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Davy Crockett, Ozzie & Harriet, Ed Sullivan, and American Bandstand. Neighborhood movie theaters showing 2 movies with several cartoons and a newsreel.
Music - Elvis, Rock & Roll, Rock-a-billy, Doo-Wop, early Motown.
Toys/Entertainment - Marbles, Duncan Yo-yo's, kites, pea shooters, hop-scotch, jump ropes, Hula-hoops, Lionel trains, roller skating rinks, bowling alleys with pinsetters, ice skating rinks, penny arcades, drive-in resturants with car hops, drive-in theatres and small scale amusement parks.
Shopping - Dime stores, drug stores with soda fountains, record stores, shoes & clothing stores, A&P food stores, J.L. Hudson Co.
Food/Travel - Good Humor Man, Milk Man(bottled milk), Vernor's ginger ale, Coney Island hot dogs, diners, and Mom & Pop motels. Niagra Falls, Smokey Mountains, when there was no Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, only a trading post to welcome you into the park. Route 66.

Cars - Ford, Chevy & Mercury
.
A myth.
Let's take Leave it to Beaver as an example.
In real life, Ward would be an alcoholic, Wally would have the clap because he banged the town punchboard at a drunken football party, June would be banging Larry Mondello's dad and struggling with an addiction to amphetamine diet pills, and the Beaver would be struggling with his nascent homosexuality all the while torturing and killing household pets in response to the merciless teasing the other kids give him for his asinine nickname.

How sad for you. Maybe, someday soon they will produce & air a show just as you describe to fulfill your fantasies.
