I've lived with all of these things, and I strove to rid myself of them. My apologies to those of you who have these things, but to me these things look dated to me. It does not mean you don't get to like them if you want.
I love ceiling fans in rooms because 1) we live in Texas and it's often very hot, and 2) I like the feeling of air circulating in a room, even in the winter time, and 3) I love to sleep under a fan.
I don't have ceiling fans for their looks, but rather for their function. In fact, I prefer that they are not noticeable.
I definitely agree with most of the stuff people are mentioning.
That being said, there is so much brass in my house that it would take five years to replace it all (not to mention the expense) and I have bigger fish to fry, such as the outdoor living area we're working on now. So we've embraced the brass so to speak, and now I'm happy with it - and besides that, brass is back in style anyway! LOL
Really? Now you have me wondering about our house! lol Even though we have more modern/contemporary fans in all the rooms.
I'm with you on that. We have hot summers here - I'd be lost without my ceiling fans. Plus they're good for pushing down the heat from the ceiling in our cold winters . . . I just have to remember to reverse them about the first of October and the first of April.

Exactly. We live in Texas and are just used to having "circulating air" in the house all the time. That trumps them being "outdated". We HAVE to have the ceiling fan on at night in our bedroom. Even on low, just to get the air flowing.
Our house has old, dated fans in every living space, not just the bedrooms. We decided to replace the kitchen and the den fans with nice chandeliers. The fans that came with the house are all largely ineffectual when it comes to cooling due to low airflow but we're slowly but surely replacing them with higher airflow fans
Our john weiland home built in the early 80"s used to have a ceiling fan in the kitchen. The previous owners took it out and placed an outlet cover.
I'm thinking maybe we might put it back@!!!
Wall-to-wall carpeting for that wonderful motel look.
