OK, well, the glass ceiling is great in places like New England, not so much in the South. Can you say "temperatures rapidly approaching the surface of the sun"?
My sister has an atrium, you close off the doors to the main living area so it doesn't get a/c (unless needed). Fully enclosed, sun roof, full windows, fan, concrete floor with a drain in the middle.
She is an avid gardener and it is like a mini rainforest in there. I was just visiting and spent a some time cleaning, trimming and watering in there. Every one of my house plants is from cuttings in her atrium.

They are a complicated feature: temperature regulation is difficult and they are prone to leaking.
Even with a well built atrium, they don’t look pretty unless you have gorgeous healthy plants in them.
My house has an atrium. Although it is beautiful, it is problematic. The inability to insulate that area makes it cold in the winter and scorching in the summer when the sun is overhead. The intensity of the sun also starts to bleach out the furniture and accessories after a few years.
Also, if the skylight portion gets a crack, it’s very expensive to replace the pane.
