How much do you pay for housecleaning? How often? How many people in your household?
$15 per hour for five hours, once per week. There's one human, two dogs, and one cat. She also does things that I dislike doing (putting up shelves,etc.). It's well worth it; but you may go through several people to get a good one. I do not use a service, but hire an individual.
If you do not use a commercial service, do you withhold income tax and pay unemployment tax? Do you provide a Form 1099 to individuals who are "independent contractors' ?
Right now I pay about $250,000 per year for a part time cleaner, cook, and full time and a half mother (wife); she works the rest of the time. But in the good old days we paid $100. I think we paid that each time, but it could have been per month (they cam twice a month). They had two or three people. They mostly did scrubbing and vacuuming. THey got mad if we did not pick up first. When they yelled at me for not picking up before they came, they did not come anymore. We really could not afford them anyaway.

$15 or $15 per hour?
We have an individual who comes twice a week for a total of 12 hours and we pay her $175 which is just about $15 per hour. We use an individual not a service.
We use a service for $50 every other week for 2-3 hours. Its 2 adults in a 1600sq ft house. They do floors, bathrooms, kitchen, and major dusting. We could up it to $75 every other week and they would do laundry. Laundry gets done more often than that - and I can easily throw in a load here and there. We both travel for work, so its hard to get around to really cleaning the house.
When we had someone in she came every 3 weeks and we paid $90 per visit...She was usually there 3 hours. We are in Northern VA.
One lesson I learned from this: Hire someone who is INSURED and BONDED. Although I loved the woman we hired (it was just her) one time I came home and she had left one of our Yankee Candle Plug In's upside down on my expensive dresser. Ate a hole right through it. Ruined. This woman was not insured so there was nothing we could do about it. Makes me sick when I think about it. Should have paid the extra $10 a visit and hired the woman who was insured.
1500sq ft house, single story, no clutter, two adults, two cats. We pay $50 (cash) for 4 hours of work every other week. She brings all her own equipment and supplies. She is an independent and has been doing such for several friends for the past 6 years or so.
I get the liability and insurance issue but one has to do what one has to do.
Keep in mind this is SC. Labor is cheap here.
