Ours is, as was our previous home. We had tried it once before and failed to keep it up; next time ‘round we stuck with it. Now we wouldn’t have it any other way. People in this region probably think it is strange, but the practice was fairly common where we lived for a few years.

I *LOVE* being able to sit or lie anywhere on the floor knowing that shoes worn outdoors have not trod on it (other than during construction activities, after which the floor gets thoroughly cleaned).

Shoes off in my house. Never really had to say anything to anyone, it is the norm for everyone I know. I got a collection of house shoes for guests also (have tile floor, so can get that cold feeling). I grew up like this.

Never really understood people who have no issue with wearing shoes around the house.

Yes for the most part. I have indoor shoes I wear only in my house, for arch problems. Occasionally we will have an evening with guests in with shoes on. But the next day my husband will run the carpet cleaner.

I don't wear outdoor shoes in my house, except when I have guests - then I wear dress shoes that I never wear outdoors

I don't wear shoes and most guests follow my lead. But its not an official rule I have. And I take off my own shoes out of force of habit from when I lived at home with the parents.

Definitely. Just thinking about the gross stuff we walk on... I wouldn't want to bring in dirt & grit, dog poop & pee, lawn chemicals, whatever on the floor in public restrooms, road salt, etc.

Yup. Shoes off. Parents were Czech, you don't wear shoes in the house. That's what slippers are for!

I usually take off my outdoor shoes a few minutes after I get home and put on sandals, but it is only because I am more comfortable. When people visit they wear their outdoor shoe in my home.

I am eighty and I have only known one non-Asian family that would not wear outdoor shoes in their home and who insisted that their guests also take off their shoes.
