Central vac. Only if I was building a new house or doing a major remodel. I am thinking a shark might be my next vacuum. If the one I have now bites the dust.

Wait, was that an awful pun?

When people ask me about powerful vacuums I tell them to go to a window sill or a surface where dust has settled and gently puff and see how easily dust moves. Perhaps you have seen the dust trails in the sunlight move violently if you move you hand ever so slightly. Powerful vacuums are simply a marketing device.

If you have pet hair, change bags more frequently the hair can restrict suction while the bag seems empty.
Dust is easy to pick up. What I would consider is the filtration of that dust. Walking on surfaces grind dust finer and finer. I would buy a vacuum based on how efficiently the dust is captured. The very act of vacuuming creates dust. That's why professional cleaners sometimes vacuum before they dust a room.

For super light weight and gets under things really well, a Shark Rocket, corded or cordless.

I originally bought the Sharp Rocket because I was having trouble vacuuming carpet stairs with the Dyson attachments. The Rocket "rocks" vacuuming stairs.

I bought one and love it. Bought my mom one because she vacuums more often and she is 80 now and thought she would like it. She uses the Rocket more often than the other, I think Bissell she has. She only pulls out the big vacuum maybe once a month for a more thorough cleaning. But I think the Rocket does a really good job. Seems to have almost as much suction as my Dyson.
