Having had a lime green door, as well as the porch roof and rafters on the wrap-around porch, I'd tell you that color will wear on you quickly. We transitioned to dark green rafters, posts and railings with a white roof in fairly short order.
and left the door lime green? My front porch is little and white. But I am rethinking the lime green.
I would suggest that the color either be in the same family as the existing house colors, or be a complimentary color on the color wheel.
For the same color family, a light blue version of the roof color.
For a complimentary color, you would have orange which would be yucky imho. But I think you could get away with either a dull true yellow or red.
The idea of a highlighting color for the front door arose from the value in older days of drawing the eye of the visitor to the main entrance of the home when a secondary entrance might also be visible. We hardly ever see that today.
But once all the conventions are considered, I love the idea of lime green.

so many colors and only one door.
I think lime green would be great. My door is about the same color as elnina posted. I am not in love with it, but it works fine. My house is a light yellow with green trim and roof. My sister has a gray house with green trim and a very bright teal for her doors. It looks good too. In retrospect, she says she wishes she had gone a bit more bold.
New front porch is almost done (waiting for Lowe's) but now my white front door looks bland. House is white with a blue roof, porch is white, door is currently white. yawn
I'm kind of thinking along the lines of lime green.
We’ll be swapping out our white steel door with a fiberglass door, brownish medium stain. Like this.
That will let in some nice light. My door has the two little windows at the top. I like having those two little windows that let in light and don't have to be covered for privacy, even at night. I can actually see the moonrise in them when I'm standing in my kitchen, at certain times of the year.

We’ll only have 1 sidelight.
