I don't have time right now to read every post but wanted to say this about front doors:
We took a trolley ride around Savannah GA with a great announcer (he was 3 weeks new into it) and he told us to notice the red doors in Savannah. That was a sign in the old days that the mortgage was paid and the home was theirs.
Cool.
Our front door is deep brown on beige house (the colors when we purchased 3 years ago) but we might have to paint the door due to a small wood kickback problem making a dent in the bottom. Yes I did it, happy it didn't hit the window next to the door ha.
That will let in some nice light. My door has the two little windows at the top. I like having those two little windows that let in light and don't have to be covered for privacy, even at night. I can actually see the moonrise in them when I'm standing in my kitchen, at certain times of the year.
My front door has a fairly large window insert but the insert is only bordered with prismed/textured glass. I really like the light it provides...with one caveat. The house's design is snug and compact; no wasted square footage anywhere. Because of the orientation of the door, the entryway and the guest bath, the view inside can be a bit unfortunate, especially after dark. The house sits downslope of the road. Someone walking on the shoulder or peering through the window can see right through the open guest bath door. There's no vent window for this bath, just an outlet of the whole-house HRV system, so best to leave the door open as much as possible. If some Nosey Parker snoops at just the wrong (or right ) moment, they'll be rewarded with a glimpse of a bared booty using the shower...or the toilet! Still, easily fixed with a small curtain on the front door.

New front porch is almost done (waiting for Lowe's) but now my white front door looks bland. House is white with a blue roof, porch is white, door is currently white. yawn
I'm kind of thinking along the lines of lime green.
Mine is a dark purple. I live in a mud adobe home so color is important. I love my door! It is one big heavy door too.
