They can have solid roofs. Big Lots had several nice gazebos this spring; various models had curtains, solid roofs, shadecloth roofs, or accommodations for electrical.

Because I grow fruit and veggies, I'd put grapevines on mine. The grapes have a very attractive way of letting the clusters of fruit hang down low below the trellis.
