FWIW, I read a tip about running wiring in a new house a while ago. If you can't run the wiring before the sheetrock is installed, find a central spot in the basement or where your cable entry is and install a 1 or 1.5 inch PVC pipe thru a wall up into the attic. Cap it to prevent heat or varmint transfer.

When you finally get around to running the cat5 or speaker wire you can run it from your cable router or stereo equipment up thru the PVC pipe into the attic where you can then run it to the top of any wall and down thru the header into any room.

This won't have as much utility I think in Texas where there are few basements and you are in a ranch, but I am in Kansas City where everybody has a basement and most places are 2 story. A single conduit from basement to attic is a GFI in those cases. (GFI = "great idea" in the superlative if you get my drift).

Not as easy as running cat5 or speaker wire thru naked walls but if you can't it is a good technique for future-proofing.
