I just went to the DL office off Dacoma and 290 today. I lost my license and had to get another one. I went at 9:15 am. The lines were long and the waiting room was crowded but it only took me 1 hr 10 min.

I wonder how they assign waiting numbers. I don't know if its in order based on first come, first serve or if they assign numbers based on what you are there for. I have a feeling senior citizens and disabled folks get a higher priority, which makes sense to me.

Make sure and show up with the proper ID. Look online to see what documents are accepted. So many people waited in line only to find out they didn't have the proper ID. An unexpired passport is gold.

I think every office has at least one day every week where they open until 7pm. I went there at 6.45 and was out at 7pm. Good luck

The one off of Will Clayton out in Humble used to be good until everybody discovered it.

***UPDATE****
I was able to get an inspection sticker, register the vehicle, and get my DL license in 4 hours. not bad considering I've been putting it off because I hate waiting.
Inspection sticker
-got it at quick lube on kingsland and 99. took about 30 min, not sure why it took that long. Usually they just drive around, break hard, play with the lights and honk the horn. On the plus side, they told me they needed to fix a hi-beam light.. then later told me it was just disconnected and they reconnected.

Registration
- went to the Fortbend office on the northeast corner of the westpark tollway and 99. Good experience. Nice new and clean building. they had numbers and benches to sit and wait. took about 10-15 min to see the teller.

DL License
- went to Columbus DPS. Figured the net extra drive was about 40 min roundtrip (would have taken 30 min to get to a DPS office in Houston). Took about 10 min to talk to a person and they were really friendly.

Can you elaborate more about your experience in the Columbus DPS. How early did you get there?

I lost my license yesterday. Anyone have new suggestions for a short wait time so I can get a new one?

I went to Rosenberg on a weekday at about 2. They were pretty fast. Only a 20 min wait.

Thanks for the tip. I just went to the DPS website and it said the busiest times are during Spring break and Mondays. Great, I will be there all day tomorrow then. :-/
