This is my first post, however, I've been lurking on this forum for over a year.

My wife and I have recently viewed homes that we like in both Canyon Lakes at Stonegate (Barker Cypress/290 Area) and Sienna Plantation (Sienna Village of Anderson Springs). I've seen much older posts regarding both neighborhoods, However, does anyone have any current first hand knowledge/experience with these communities that they can share with me?

Specifically Information on the following:

Crime Statistics
Demographics
School District - Postma, Schiff, Ridge Point, Cy Falls/Cy Woods
Future Developments

I'm really liking what 290/Barker Cypress has to offer but my wife is sold on Sienna Plantation.

As a life-long resident of the NW part of Houston, I would just ask you: Do you know the hell that is 290 traffic?

Stonegate is a great community, as are many out that way in Cy-Fair. My wife and I wrote all of them off when we were house hunting because of 290. She works uptown and I work in Memorial City area. Fuggetta bout-it.

Now with Sienna you have the FB Tollroad to Sam Houston, which can get hairy at times. But having sat in 290 traffic I would take Sienna.

And why isn't Cinco on the menu? I-10 isn't that bad since the expansion, and we are getting direct connector love at 99.

Agreed, the traffic is the only negative I can find on the 290 area. If we move that way I plan on switching my work schedule around. In regards to Katy, I really like the area, but for our price range 200-250K, we really couldn't find the size (2500SQ FT +) or amenities.

We lived in Stone Gate for about 3 years and moved about 2 years ago. Can't speak for school quality since our kids weren't old enough yet, but there was very little crime to speak of.

My only caution is that if you plan to be there for the short term, there are a TON of new developments close by, so housing values in Stone Gate were pretty stagnant before the real estate market slowdown.
