Hey,

I am moving to Houston for a new job near the Galleria area. I am looking for a good place to rent that has other young, professional types and a good social environment (pool scene, proximity to restaurants/ nightlife). Budget is around $1,000... Uptown/ Galleria, along Memorial Drive, Greenway would be most convenient for a commute. Midtown seems great, but is a little bit out of the way for the job. Any specific places that cater to this demographic and do a really good job? I have been scared off by a lot of negative reviews for the places I have looked into.

For $1000 you can probably find a decent sized house to rent in the Heights.

cheval apartments aren't too far from Galleria (i-10 @ 610), and it's not far from Washington Ave, and there was always pool parties on the weekends during the summer when i lived there.....and that's about what the rent is for a one bedroom. there were a lot of young professionals there, mid 20's-early 30's. you're going to get a lot of negative reviews at most apartments, because people only tend to review the bad stuff, and not the good.....

i really enjoyed living at those apts, they have a 3 level COVERED garage, and the 4th level is uncovered. they had 2 pools, gym, tennis court, basketball court, putting green, sand volleyball net by one of the pools. they had trainers come in and do spinning classes or yoga, pilates...they have a library. free dvd movie rentals w/ popcorn... the apartments were nice w/ washer and dryers in them. high ceilings w/ ceiling fans in each room. the staff was nice, but as with most apt complexes, the turn around is horrible.

2121 Midlane was decent regarding young professionals... Not sure about 1k budget in that area tho. For 1 bedroom and 1+ year contract maybe.

If I were you I would look at ALL of the apartments in the Galleria area or Greenway. Pick the one with the prettiest girls working at the leasing desk - that one definitely caters to single 20-somethings.
