Update article on it today:
Galveston update: Pleasure Pier is taking shape & Waterman reopens | Houston Restaurants | 29-95.com

The article also mentioned Waterman Restaurant will be reopening soon... we were sad last time we were in Galveston that it was closed for remodeling!

I was down there this past weekend and saw they had the Ferris wheel up. At first I was really disappointed with the size and thought it looked like all the other Ferris wheels you could find at a mall fair. Then I looked at the picture of what it's supposed to look like and found that it is only the inner circle and the finish product is going top be much larger; kind of how I thought it would be.

I'm really exited to see how tall the swing is going to look once they get it up. I took a picture of the tiny little red ball you see at the top of it on the renderings on the front page of the pleasure pier website. It's not a tiny little red ball.

I was in Galveston this morning and the wind was howling like a banshee -- I hope it dies down before the weekend. Can't imagine being in a huge ferris wheel (or on a rollercoaster) with such strong winds.

People need to think of it as an amusement park and not a pier...because it really is an amusement park. There are no restaurants or shops like Kemah, it is rides, games and amusement park type food.

Can you walk into a Six Flags park for free? Can you walk into Schlitterbahn for free? No. In fact they charge you full admission price even if you aren't going to ride anything.

There are small amusement parks all over the country that do exactly what the pier is doing. Charging a reduced "spectator" fee for people that don't plan on riding anything.

It's a pier with rides - people are going to flock to that place in droves - it's a pier, there won't be room for the crowd - it will be shoulder to shoulder.

I agree. You want people to drive ALL THE WAY down to Galveston and then pay $10 for parking and then $10 just to walk around? A pier that you can see in ten minutes from end to end? Then ontop of that, money for rides, drinks and food. I get this an amusement park, but it's a tiny one at best! EPIC FAIL. It's just the developer trying to get his money back.
