What a stupid list. Most of those places are amazing to go to.

What credibility can somebody have that says that the Caribbean is the #3 most overrated destination (28 island nations and about 7,000 individual islands)
Meanwhile Miami, New York and Las Vegas didn't make his list

I'll take the "overrated" Caribbean islands of "Los Roques, Venezuela" anyday before I go to Miami.

Yeah, but it says to visit Houston instead of Austin.

compared to other places where you can go for cheaper - the Caribbean is overrated (at least most of the places tourists go)

yes, austin is overrated. nice place to live and visit but "this is like NYC!" - yes i heard that - is well over the top. they spent tons of money on national ad campaigns. anytime a smaller city with big city dreams spends that kind of dough on marketing without any infrastructure changes you are going to be overrated

disclaimer - yes i think houston is much better than austin

i love SF and Seattle. Seattle isn't listed but he refers to it negatively. I also love Vancouver, but honestly the best part about it is the nature. They can't help it the area is just one of the most beautiful places in the world or at least on this side of the planet

As a U of M grad and Chicago native (GO BLUE GO BLUE GO BLUE! Sorry....) who has been to Detroit often, I must say this guy is on something awfully good. If you are going to argue for a better destination, make the Twin Cities argument instead. Detroit? My goodness.

Oh, and what do you call a city that has 3 streets worth visiting and a University worth overlooking? You call it Austin.

And yes, I'm still bitter about the Rose Bowl.

I don't know about lumping all of the Caribbean together but most of it is overrated. There is not much difference between Nassau and Antigua. It's just constant pressure from its citizens to buy what ever rip off they are selling. You can not even relax on the beach without someone coming up offering to braid your hair or get on whatever death trap they are pulling behind their boat.

It all depends on where you go
I have family in Paraguana peninsula in Venezuela (pretty much an island) only 20 miles South of Aruba and you rarely see any tourists there. It's tourism industry is very underdeveloped.
i loved it there for that reason.

One of the coolest thing I've ever done was drive with my brother all the way to the norther tip where you can see Aruba and there's a very small town of 100-200 people with no other town for at least 20 miles and it has a restaurant right by the water (almost in the water) and we had a huge seafood platter for lunch

This is the little town - Puerto Escondido, Venezuela
