Every new facility or capacity improvement creates a bottleneck on an existing facility somewhere. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Doesn't help when some idiot designs our highways and make it 10 times more confusing than what it needs to be

My boss who has lived here for over 25 years told me once that Houston acts on things only after it has become a problem. For instance, the traffic for 99 already existed two years back and it has only gotten worse. And 99 will partially open now. The growth projections for entire area (Katy, Richmond, Fulshear) will make the traffic a nightmare. Yay for metro line 285 to galleria!!!!

The best/or worse example of highway/traffic neglect is hwy 288. Just now they are finally designing expansion which will include managed/tolled lanes in the center. not to mention that they neglected to build access ramps to beltway 8 from 288 and the baltway has been in place there for what 20 years.
ridiculous.

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade, but I can't get too excited about this Grand Parkway thing because its harboring even more sprawl. I'd rather see more lightrail progress being expanded to the suburbs.

It will indeed result in more sprawl but it is needed imo because it will give people good access from sugarland-katy-cypress. Houston freeways were obviously built to have a dense urban core but for whatever reason it has become an suburban sprawl. This expansion serves the existing population well. As far the lightrail is concerned, I fully support it because I was very used to BART (SF bay area). But the problem (very shortsighted I agree) is that the lightrail will take a decade to expand anywhere near Katy whereas pouring more concrete can be relatively faster. Ultimately this expansion will populate the area between Katy and Cypress. But the City and perhaps even the Country does things on a knee-jerk reaction and does not have the foresight to plan things in advance.

If you think Traffic is bad now at the 1093 exchange at rush hour...imagine now once you had several thousand cars going 70 mph

I hate Costco.

I'm sorry Costco, I didn't mean that. I'll be stopping by to see you tomorrow, even though it takes me 40 minutes to get there. I'll bring you something nice. I love you Costco.
