I'd move to the Texas Hill Country, somewhere on a spring fed river. Have to be near shopping to keep the wife happy, probably Austin.

2nd home would probably be in Cebu, the wife's home city.

I would leave here so fast I probably would not take anything but my animals with me. I would never come back to Texas- I would fly my family to see me if I wanted. Living here is not worth much to me at all- even a job and low COL really doesnt feel worth it to me to be so miserable.

Maybe city officials should do a study to see why so many people that live in Houston would move away if they didn't have to stay here due to their job.
I bet paying toll to go to work is gonna be pretty high on that list.

If I was wealthy, I would not live in Houston. Would probably stay in Texas but go North or West where there is less humidity.

Naw, Its like reviews on the internet, usually it is only those who are most disgruntled that are the ones motivated enough to post harsh reviews.

If they had a really fulfilling social life they wouldn't be so miserable...

As I get closer to retirement, the living situation becomes a bigger issue. Love my itl location but 4 floors gets tougher with age.

I like what Houston offers but thinking of south Texas or even Panama for my twilight years.

What Houston needs is one decent swimming hole even if the city has to make one.

If you are independently wealthy you should probably consider obtaining citizenship in a country with low travel restrictions (i.e. no visa required for most of the world) and litle to no tax (hear estonia might fit the bill), and then renounce US citizenship to cut the cord with the IRS forever. Ideal scenario.

I don't live in Houston. If I was filthy rich, I'd probably have a place in TX, maybe Hill Country, to be close to family and get away from it all. I'd mostly divide my time between NYC or LA, Paris, and some exotic beach locations, though.

I already said goodbye to Houston a while back, but if I was fabulously wealthy, I wouldn't be returning. I'd be moving to Honolulu. Reasonable urban amenities, flight to several locations in the U.S. and Asia, and the only one of the Hawaiian islands that has pretty good health care infrastructure. The only thing that isn't paradise there is the traffic, but if I didn't have to work, I wouldn't be commuting.
