I wish we had been more DINK-y a tad longer before the family stage.

That said, look in the Heights, Montrose, Museum, Rice Military/Memorial Park area. You'll get your trees and some yard and an urban/eclectic vibe w/o being surrounded by cars and concrete. How's your realtor? Are they savvy in understanding what you 're looking for? (I've found that some are not as invested in the client as they could be. It's a great time to be in real estate in H-town)
Actually, wasn't even really familiar with the term until I got responses to my first thread. It seemed to be an easy way to phrase a short title to the post so people who identify as such, could weigh in. There didn't seem to be anything controversial or offensive about the abbreviation.

I don't know if our life is so luxurious! :-) But we do spend time pursuing interests and seem to have more disposable income and time than our friends with children.

I think our realtor mostly "gets" us and has our best interest at heart but I just thought soliciting opinions from people who actually live a similar lifestyle might be more revealing than what 'non-dinks' imagine our life is like and where the best place for us might be. <---- this is more in response to the poster you were quoting. I was just affirming your reply to them.

I'm not a DINK but i previously lived in a DINK-worthy spot on Oxford and White Oak in the Heights. Great spot with many great things in walking distance and many more great things in short driving distance. I don't know your budget but the location no longer comes cheap. We basically priced ourselves out of the neighborhood when we needed more space. But if you can swing it, there are a lot of nice amenities there.

White Oak seems pretty nice but is out of our price range. I guess we complicate things by wanting some land and lots of house. We do a lot of entertaining and generally like having friends over. So the suburban setting is appealing for the space and backyard oasis it provides. Where we currently live (surrounded by young families), we get lots of visitors from out of town but local friends seem put off by our location and we end up almost always having to go to them.

We are buying in Shady Acres and are getting a small backyard with a covered patio, driveway that will fit four cars. The downside is the house is 4 stories with the 4th being game room/media room and outdoor rooftop patio that's 17x14 or so

My wife and I are moving near I-10 and the beltway. A little better value than inside the loop. Still easy driving to downtown for entertainment, near city center, and convenient to IAH for work and leisure travel.

We struggle with finding friends. i'll be watching this thread to see how others connect.

I thought it was slang for that certian part of the male anatomy. I was wondering why they were asking about that in where to live until I read through the posts!

Try 2500 feet over 3 floors in that range.
