Would love to know if it improves after the move. Good luck!

That sounds pretty sweet!

Maybe Oak Forest? Especially if you seek out the more western areas that are zoned to . . . <can't remember the name> the elementary school that is not desirable. Since you don't need it, you can get more house for less money. Sections of Meyerland perhaps?

We lived in Oak Forest when we were DINKing. Found that most of our friends lived in the loop, but we were close enough.

Stevens is the other elementary. If you are west of Piney Woods Dr. you get zoned to Stevens.

Something isn't adding up here...4,000 + sq ft for 2 people? That is a lot of house.

Different strokes but I would agree. 4000 is a lot of space for two people with no thought of having kids let alone a lot of kids

Housing is not that cheap anymore here in Houston, not in a popular, or even becoming popular areas, where other "DINKS" would be.
I don't know how old ya'll are either, I know plenty of DINKs(my husband and I, plus friends) but that's merely because we are young and don't kids. Most of us have oil/gas/engineering type jobs but kids are still several years away for all of us.

The areas that are popular for younger couples with larger budgets are Heights, Cottage Grove, EADO. But you're going to be looking at 2000-2500sq ft for your budget. And like I said, no idea what age range you want to be around.

The OP said they enjoyed entertaining. A decent sized movie room can quickly gobble up 600 sq ft. Thrown in a game room that will comfortably hold a pool table and a shuffle board table along with seating and a bar, and you're down another 600 sq ft. or more.

It's still a really large house. The one we just put under contract is just over 2800 with a gameroom that you cold fit with the pool table and shuffle board or make it a media room(seems like having all of them would be an odd requirement for entertaining) and the living/dining/kitchen all large enough to host lots of people
