Houston LGBT nondiscrimination ordinance rejected by voters--

Way to come out looking like a social backwater. Kind of kills any ideas that the city is in any way progressive or up with the times. You want to be thought of as a big, important city... well big, important cities don't do this.

I know. It's absolutely insane that Houston voters wouldn't want dudes with penises dressed up as women lurking around the ladies rooms. This place really is a social backwater filled with bigots and haters.

I have no doubt that that's exactly what kind of fear-mongering went on, so no need to rehash the obvious. Transgender=Pedophile kind of forward-thinking.

If the mayor didn't hang her hat on that specific liberal agenda, the bill probably would have passed.

No, she want to push the envelope and end up bringing everybody and their mother to hate this bill.

Extremely dumb execution.

Wrong. It wasn't transgender = pedophile. It was pedophiles/perverts being able to go in any bathroom depending on "their perceived" gender identity.

Because they couldn't do that without the bill? They needed this specific bill to dress up and go into a different bathroom?

Just curious, though... how often does this kind of thing actually happen? What is the documented incidence of it? Or was this merely an irrational fear of the hypothetical?

Isn't this merely punishing actual transgendered people because of a fear of something that could happen at any time anyway? Do pedophiles even need to dress up to go into the wrong bathroom to molest kids? Pretty sure they're already willing to violate laws, and going into the wrong bathroom doesn't seem to be quite as serious as molestation.

So maybe someone could help me out and tell me how rejecting this bill prevents a pedophile from going into a bathroom. Anyone?

Liberal agenda=treating people with respect and equality. I can see how this might not go over well in some circles.

It's not the frequency of this thing happening, but the very idea of legalizing the thing happening instilled fears in many minds it looks like.

LOL. Keep telling yourself that. Lucky for us, we actually have some sense here and don't like crazies like you push the agenda.
