We're considering Katy but

what is the best suburb/neighborhood for a house in this price range with good high schools, relative safety, and a not too horrific commute to downtown and the fun stuff. Some racial/cultural diversity would be nice. need a 3 bedroom 2 bath.

I say the burbs because i know this is pretty much impossible to find in the inner loop.

In that price range I'd look at north katy/cypress.

Default Katy is a great locations!....but don't rule out Richmond.

You should try Richmond as well. There are several communities (newer) that are just around Katy. Richmond is a new booming market, most communities are just off the Westpark tollway so the commute to downtown will not be too bad. I just bought a home myself in Grand Mission, just down the way from Cinco Ranch. The schools are great and so is the area. You will have to go further down Westhiemer for fun and other things to do (which is about a 15 minute drive to the center of the Westhiemer strip).

Where will you be working - that would be the first thing to consider in deciding on a burb - Houston is very spread out so its best on your sanity to find one with great schools that has the shortest commute.

Thanks all for the responses. The rub of course is that the job situation is not definitive (plus i do project work so i move around) but I think 90% chance i will be in downtown or galleria area, with a small chance of The Woodlands.

Anyone know what the zip code is for the "sliver" of Westbury that is zoned for Bellaire High School. I've read here that we want to avoid Westbury High School at all cost
