Dallas. Dallas has a much more prominent gay community than it's given credit for. It rivals Atlanta in that aspect but to me the gay community in Dallas seemed even larger and more diverse and despite Atlantat's reputation it seemed more accepted in Dallas.

The bar scene and LGBT focused retail is way better in Dallas than it is in Houston or Atlanta.

Atlanta is the gay mecca. No way Dallas even compares. Calling major bs on that one.

Houston has come along way because I see gay couples out “everywhere”.

And you shouldn't be surprised that Dallas is one as well and does have a more thriving LGBT nightlife and retail scene. Dallas/DFW is also a larger area, so you're going to capture a larger group of people. Atlanta being smaller and having a large LGBT population does make it have a higher percentage.

Depends on the scene. Atlanta is the black gay Mecca. Dallas' gay scene is more diverse but doesn't specialize in a specific demographic.

By population, they have about the same sized gay populations. Both bigger than Houston (by metro anyway).

The common consensus is that the gay nightlife is much more lively in Dallas but that there isnt a better city to be gay in. I could somewhat see that. When my wife and I lived in Dallas we used to go to gay bars and clubs all the time. Here, its a much smaller selection and they are more scattered.

But day to day gay life, they are both good for that.
What is "day to day gay life"? I know a few myself and their lives are literally no different than mine. And even if on paper Dallas has more friendly gay laws, it's more fluff on a piece of paper. I think at ground level it doesnt matter and both cities are equal, but I could be mistaken there.

No one has ever suggested on a national level that Dallas is the place to be for gay people much less Texas in general, as oppose to Atlanta. If the choice given between Houston/Dallas than maybe so.

Austin definitely seems the "most gay" city to me. I'm not sure if that was an option though, if the op can only pick between Houston or Dallas.

Austin has certainly become the most attractive city in the state to the LGBT community. It just wasn’t one of OP’s options.
