I am looking to move out to the energy corridor area. The apartments I am looking at are around I-10 and barker cypress, and Eldridge parkway. I currently live around 290 and Telge RD, and commute to the galleria. I am wondering if the drive on I-10 will be any better, or if I will trade one crappy commute for another. I am also worried about flooding in that area. I know that the apartments I am looking at all flooded during the tax flood as well as Harvey. Any input on this area would be helpful for I am torn between moving and staying put.

If you are close enough to Westheimer or the West Park Tollway then the commute can be much better than the I-10. The I-10 is not that bad but to get from it to the Galleria can be brutal. 610 going south is terrible until like 9 every morning.

If you are concerned about flooding, note that there are many apartments in the Energy Corridor that did not flood during Harvey. Honestly, I'd suggest not worrying too much about flooding if you're a renter (as long as your complex has second-floor units available and a parking garage). If you're in a second floor unit in a complex that floods, it's an inconvenience, not a tragedy. Even if management decides to vacate the entire complex to rebuild, you'll be able to break the lease without penalty.

If you pick an apartment near I-10 and Hwy 6 (there are many), the Addicks Park and Ride may be an attractive commuting option once the Post Oak BRT is up and running.

Just curious, why not move even closer to the Galleria? There are plenty of apartments at a variety of price points between 610, BW8, I-10, and the Westpark tollway.

I am needing to find a place with a garage. Any apartment I have found in or near the galleria with a garage has been way out of my price range.
