Dang, the Midtown Whole Foods shut down for good this week. I know there are options in Montrose and 3rd ward, but the Whole Foods concept was cool.

WF is kinda pricey though. Hopefully a cheaper option, like Kroger or Fiesta, can move in.

I think a Trader Joe’s would be nice. The one on Shepherd was a zoo from what I remember. WF is too expensive for that area.

I like the option of buying organic or non-organic. I stopped shopping at WF several years ago. I’m curious where those people in midtown are grocery shopping?

Amazon Fresh raised it’s minimum order to $100+ for free delivery several months ago…went back to Kroger.

Trader Joe's is a little too specialized.
A meat and potatoes store like Kroger may be more well rounded for an up and coming area.

WF for me is always a last resort destination.
Stores like Phoenicia I go in when I really need something right now.

Trader Joe's, Sprouts and Aldi usually have good deals but I wouldn't call these everyday stores.

Walmart, Fiesta or Kroger will always pull people in. I go out of my way to get to Kroger; even if it is in a sketchy area. I wouldn't go out of my way to get to Trader Joe's. If I'm in the area already then fine.

Did anyone else hit up the Whole Foods closing sale? Went this past Sunday, deals were great, it was VERY busy and overall the store was pretty picked-over by that point. Reminded me my experience at the closing sale for the Randalls at Voss and Woodway about a decade ago (to make way for a Whole Foods...)

The Midtown store looked nice, and looks to have been well-loved based on Google reviews, but I guess the convenience factor for those in the immediate area didn't make up for the high prices. A 5-minute drive gets you to broader selection and better prices at the Montrose HEB or the Randalls just up the road.

Great news. Harris County approved NRG Park improvement project.

https://communityimpact.com/houston/...lize-nrg-park/

I believe this is the second project incentivized by the World Cup. One being the $2 billion convention district upgrades; the other being this one.

Can’t wait to see renderings for both projects

I've heard some in Houston complain that the Ritz Carlton is going to the Woodlands rather than the city limits. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think that the having only one place in the city that can support this caliber of a brand (being parts of River Oaks/Uptown) is a drawback. And when you can have the Woodlands supporting big names like Louis Vuitton and Ritz Carlton, this creates more opportunity to establish things like this.

For reference, here's a rendering

Put me down as "who cares?" I really don't. I don't need luxury brands to be fulfilled..

I think it’s a great think that Houston is having multiple areas that can support these kinds of brands.

I don’t think either is particularly geared towards the World Cup, and I don’t know that anyone expects either to be completed by then, especially not NRG Park
