Hello all, hoping someone out there can help me. I'm a native Texan but I'm not very familiar with the Houston metro area (been there a few times, but not recently due to the pandemic). I plan to work at Alief ISD with a tentative moving date of summer 2023.

I'm looking for some neighborhoods to help narrow down my housing search. Here's some additional info about me:

Annual gross income (current): 52K (if I get a job with Alief ISD I'll be making at least 60K annually)
Single, no kids or pets
Looking for apartment, not a studio but I don't want an enormous one either.
Moving budget: $5,000 (separate from my emergency fund)
What I'm looking for in a neighborhood: QUIET as much as reasonable within a city as I'm a teacher and need sleep. Somewhere near things to do - restaurants, shopping, zoo, museum. Near parks would also be nice. Trying to avoid areas with lots of college students. Would like a neighborhood with other adults (30 and up) and families.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

You'll have too many options in that area from low to high - Alief is in between the Galleria, Energy Corridor and Katy - also near Sugar Land - you do better renting in Sugar Land close to the Alief border if you want quiet and families or head west to katy near Cinco

Thank you for the information. I've looked at Sugar Land but also want to consider areas within Houston, but I just need help narrowing down where to look for apartments as I'm not familiar with the area.

You should look in the Energy Corridor area, along Terry Hershey park. There's reasonable small apartments, but any on the low end are going to be an older building. There's nothing wrong with that as long as the upkeep has been good. Some of the older apartments are in nice/decent areas near Memorial. There's plenty of really nice medium/high end apartments in this area too, which are going to have better security. Lots a benefits in the Energy Corridor, or nearby in the general area.
