Hey so I’m Pakistani American female in my 20s and I was born in NYC. I moved to Houston with my family a few years back. I had heard so many good things about Houston. I heard it’s warm, people are friendly, cheap, diverse and etc. But nobody was telling me the bad stuff like how it gets flooded with insects during summer, humidity, extreme extreme boredom, doesn’t actually feel like a city. I couldn’t even make friends there. I also felt like there’s nothing to do there for fun. I spent there like 1 year and decided to come back.

I feel like the only way a person can like Houston is if they grew up there. Anyways, what do you guys think? Boring or fun? I prefer votes from people who moved there but anyone can participate.

Should’ve given more options. Houston is no Vegas, Miami or NYC. But it’s definitely more fun than Phoenix, Cincinnati and places like that.

Mojo is full of it by the way. While a place like NOLA will for sure outdo Houston when it comes to nightlife any day of the week, to say no nightlife just shows how you spend your time here. Based off his/her post history, my guess is he/she was past their prime by the time they moved here. The nightlife districts have noticeably improved especially in the past 4 or so years for some reason. But of course someone who’s not outgoing wouldn’t notice.

Regardless, I would rather an in between option in this one.

For reference, I’m also in my 20s and am not born here but lived in Houston over a third of my life (on two separate tenures). I moved here again in 2020 which was my first time as an adult. I am currently technically working in Austin but it’s pretty much hybrid so I go back and forth a lot. Outside of Texas, I have lived in Miami, Chicago and Louisiana (not NOLA). Also Venezuela, my place of birth and my summer home growing up. And have visited many other countries during my life time.

All that said, I have seen the good of Houston and the good elsewhere. There’s more fun places but also definitely more boring places.

I don't think the OP was thinking about tourism, I think she was thinking about nightlife.

There’s no need and this is a bad argument. I do agree that Houston isn’t the most fun place out there, but naming 5 tourist attractions isn’t a good marker. Places that are generally overall fun don’t need large scale attractions. Nor do tourist attractions don’t make a place un boring. Most people I know that live in Orlando find it boring to live in but they have plenty of attractions to go around.

What causes Houston (and Texas in general for the most part) is that it’s built as a place to work. Not like Miami where it’s personality and environment are very recreational.

I’ve even heard people joke around and say that’s why Texas economy has been booming all these years. It’s boring so people may as well go to work.

Houston is many things, boring isnt one of them. Unkept, yes. Disorganized, yes. Seedy, yes. Uncomfortably humid, yes. Boring, no way. There are lots of nightlife institutions, cultural institutions, and excellent restaurants among other things. Perhaps you should say what you found boring about it.

You couldnt make friends here???? How??? Ive lived in LA, Chicago, Dallas, and DC and Houston is BY FAR the easiest city to make friends in by nature of how laid back it is.

I say this as someone who grew up in Los Angeles.

Definitely agree with the making friends thing. Houston is one of the easier places to make friends in the US. But everyone’s situation is different maybe OP was put in a area and circle where it’s hard to make friends. In Katy it’s pretty easy to make friends but in Baytown not so much. Then there’s just personal things like the schools etc. That’s my take atleast.
