So what in your opinion, defines a state bein' Southwestern?

-----------
1) The people CAN'T speak with southern accents
2) Southern food CANNOT be popular
3) The state CANNOT have ever been part of the Confederacy, and
3b) Confederate memorials and symbols can't be found around the state
4) "Y'all" CAN'T be the standard term for "you all/you guys"
5) There can't be a large number of Baptists

If you can honestly tell me that Texas meets all of the above requirements, then I will concede that it isn't a southern state.

If this is the criteria, then Texas is diffenatly a southern, especially east Texas(the parts that border Louisiana and Arkansas). Hell we we're this close to the state allowing confederate flags on license plates.

Thumbs up Houston is Southern

Its southern....just different from the rest of the southern cities. I think people like to exclude Houston and Texas from being southern because of its location and its diversity. For one as mentioned, TX is huge and it may not have the same type of southern feel but its still southern mainly in the east and SE (Houston) parts of the state. People in TX live the southern life style.

Growing up in BMT-PA (which is probably the most southern part of the state) and going to school in East TX and living in Houston. Yea! This city is southern. It just reminds me of a much larger BMT-PA with more buildings more highways more people and more stuff to do.

This is wishful thinking. The so-called "golden triangle" is actually the armpit of the universe. Carl Sagan even said so.....
