I believe there was a news story or press release a few weeks ago that detailed the top 5 facility/university program projects Marshall has on tap. I believe that piece of property was listed in that top 5 and still listed as a mixed use residential building.
tbailey, do you remember this story? I thought there was a thread or post about it here on the boards.
It has to be something with the College of Business and/or the ballpark, right? Anything more "momentous" would be the ACF property...
I'm guessing it has to do with the ballpark. You have Rick Reed and Jeff Montgomery both in town for the homecoming parade and both are former Marshall players and MLB pitchers. Johnny Bench is also in town that week and is going to actually be part of the homecoming parade, riding with the two mentioned above. I'm guessing that there has been a large donation to kick off the fundraising campaign.
"For the first time, U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges” rankings have recognized Marshall University among the nation’s top higher education institutions. The magazine’s 2020 edition, released today, placed Marshall among the best 381 schools in the top tier “National Universities” category."
Part of this is related to the recent recognition of the research arm of the University, part of it is recognition of the Brad Smith School of Business, and part of it is the recognition off Marshall's work to enroll and graduate students from low income families, a unique accomplishment among research universities.
"U.S. News & World Report also recognized Marshall with the #147 position in the country in the “Social Mobility” category—a measure of how successful a school is at enrolling and graduating students who come from low-income households. Marshall is West Virginia’s only research university to be ranked in this category."
That's a lot of good publicity, and speaks well for the work being done by the Gilbert administration.
