Still, to paraphrase what one author said in one of the dozens of articles I've read on Bass Pros is that the government has somewhat picked a winner in the market while all the other mom and pop places who compete don't get to suck from the teat.

I don't shop there that much. But I have to admit it is one of the most kick ass views of the city scape when you are driving in from I-20W and see it standing up on that hill - especially at dusk - along with Shops at Grand River on the right. They know how to make it look good. I'm sure they'll do the same for Sweetwater.
It's an unfortunate catch-22 (mainly talking about industry...not retail so much). If a company is looking at Location A and Location B. Location A is offering $50 million in incentives, location B is offering nothing. They'll choose Location A every time. On the other hand, if you removed the ability for corporations to receive incentives to locate to an area, it would be infinitely harder for a place like Limestone County to ever land big industry. Smaller locales need all of the advantages that they can get with our current economy and system of government.

I'll believe Bass Pro Shops is coming to the area when I open their door and walk into the store - everything else is chatter.

They have the minimum three votes now, so this will pass on the 7th.

Looks like it may not happen, unless something change's quick.

Sweetwater development, featuring Bass Pro Shop, may be dying for the third time in Limestone County | AL.com

I'm guessing Cabela's took a lot of wind out of their sales.

Location is great, but it appears Decatur can't do enough to support it.

I saw a new one go up just south of Chattanooga on 75. East Ridge I think.

And that article doesn't talk about the lawsuit internally either.
