Although we're not retiring as soon as we once hoped, doing some advance planning (daydreaming?) seems to help ward off the blues. I still favor the open concept ranch plans of a certain tract builder in HSV (some modifications for wheelchair use may be necessary), but the more I read about ICF construction the more it appeals to me. I think we're prepared to pay a premium for a custom home if the result is better indoor air quality, increased comfort and, hopefully, greater safety, too. I don't care about the bling that many builders seem to focus on, but will spend hours reading about ventilating whole house dehumidifiers vs. energy recovery ventilators or getting a handle on the controversy over sealed and foamed attics in a warm, humid climate. My problem seems to be finding a builder who has not just read the same studies and reports, but who has real world experience using the recommended procedures and systems.

I ran across a father and son team who build under the name Stonecraft Construction; they also have a couple of other companies, such as BuildBlock and TruSeal. I saw (online, not IRL) a few houses they built several years ago, but cannot find anything more recent. Is anyone familiar with their work? Do you know other builders in Madison/Huntsville who have extensive experience (well, at least more that just one or two houses) building with ICFs?

Thanks!

I am a subcontractor and have worked with Danesh and his son Navid. They build quality homes. They are very considerate of their homeowners.

In one case he had a new mom moving in a home he had just completed. He went out of his way to try to get rid of all the dust (and there is a lot of dust in a new home) because he didn't want the newborn to have to breath all the dust.

I would recommend them. They build beautiful homes and having to revise so that it is wheel chair friendly, I don't think he would have problem with that.
