Nothing wrong with fish guts and eyeballs Tho, the fish should not be on ice with guts. Eyeballs are ok
I'll definitely check them out, that is close to us

Yesterday we went to Ard's, in Decatur, to get some Royal Reds and gumbo. Excellent seafood selection, and they are very knowledgeable about their products. They offer oysters shucked and in the shell (the oysters that day were from Texas) and a nice assortment of fresh fish and shrimp. They also offer a wide variety of spices, many from Alabama, to liven-up your seafood dishes.

While we were there, several folks showed-up for their steamed seafood "platters" - great idea if you don't feel like cooking the seafood yourself.

Highly recommended.

How were the Royal Red's at Ard's? Were they fresh or previously frozen...some pics they have on Facebook look like they are frozen.

I bought some a couple of weeks ago at A&V and I swear they were bigger than the ones we got in Florida the week before....and $3/lb cheaper. Delicious stuffed with Captain Anderson's crabmeat dressing and baked

I've got to put an order in for oysters for Kickoff Saturday

They were frozen head-off, but very good. I suppose Royal Reds are expensive and deteriorate rapidly, so it's tough to offer fresh this far from the source.

The biggest problem with Royal Reds is most people overcook them. The texture of Royal Reds is ruined when overcooked.

Yep - we bought some fresh when we were at Perdido Key. They were each about ten inches long with the heads on.

BTW - September is peak Royal Red season.

I will definitely try them, had Reds in FL and, even for this cold water shrimp lover, they were awesome (Old Bay Steamer on Santa Rosa Island)

The ones I got from A&V were fresh from the Gulf.....if you ever wanted fresh and not frozen.
